Please keep fishing friendly, and keep sites clean and safe for everyone to enjoy.

As of April 1, 2020 until further notice there will be no vehicle access to Beaver Lake and Fiesta Lake (depending upon physical distancing actions displayed by users, further restrictions may be put in place). This action has been taken to reduce the spread of COVID-19 and to align with the direction of Ministry of Environment and Parks and the Chief Medical Officer of Health. Please consider being dropped off and picked up: you may still walk in as angling is still open. Please practice safe physical distancing guidelines of 2m (6ft) when fishing.

In addition, to reduce health risks to everyone, all ACA conservation site outhouses are now closed. The situation will be reassessed for May 2020 and depending upon site use or unsafe conditions, closures or additional access restrictions on other lakes may be required.

Please keep fishing friendly, and keep sites clean and safe for everyone to enjoy.

Fincastle Reservoir (F4-3)

Site Details

Fincastle Reservoir introduces visitors to a different kind of neighbourhood—great blue heron style. A rookery is located on a nearby island, home to generations of herons who have come, built nests and reared their young. The human-made nesting structure, built by ACA staff in 2000, holds some 12 heron nests and replaces the since-deteriorated poplar tree that was the population’s former home. Bring your binoculars and observe the peculiar feeding and nesting habits of these great birds. Be respectful and keep your distance. Pack your fishing rod and try landing a walleye, northern pike or yellow perch. This 33-acre site is located approximately 10 km east of Taber. From Taber, travel east on Highway 3 for 9 km and then turn north and travel 0.5 km.

Day use only. No open fires. Foot access only.
