Fincastle Reservoir (F4-3)

Site Details

This 33-acre site is approximately 10 km E of Taber. From Taber, travel E on Highway 3 for 9 km and then turn N and travel 0.5 km. A rookery on a nearby island is home to generations of great blue herons who have come, built nests and reared their young. The human-made nesting structure, built by ACA staff in 2000, holds some 12 heron nests and replaces the since-deteriorated poplar tree that was the population’s former home. Bring your binoculars and observe the peculiar feeding and nesting habits of these great birds. Be respectful and keep your distance. Pack your fishing rod and try landing a walleye, northern pike or yellow perch.
